Making a Difference in OUR Communities

Good Afternoon. I was going through the photos on my computer and came across this one of my son Owen and his friends during last year’s Pedal For Hope at Newcastle Public School.I was not aware that this event was taking place at the school until the morning of as we had been away on vacation. When I dropped my son off, I noticed the signs up inside the school. When I inquired and found out that there was going to be a visit from the Cops for Cancer tour and also a ‘Head Shave’. I thought that my little man MAY be up for the challenge. Cancer has negatively effected our lives in many ways, with both mine and my husband’s mom being breast cancer survivors (we have participated in the CIBC Run for The Cure since Owen was a baby…as a family). We have also lost friends and relatives to this dreaded disease.

Both my boys know all to well of the word ‘Cancer’ and what it means. We do what we can to support this cause.I ran up to Owen’s class and told him what was going on. I asked him if he wanted to participated and with wide eyes he answered a big “Yes Mom”! There were only 5 participants and Newcastle Public school. The first 2 were students, then a Teacher, and the 4th was Owen. After Owen said he wanted to participate a friend of his Corson said he would do it too! A quick call to his Mom and Corson was also good to go! 5 head shaves in total!Owen never looked back. He was up for this challenge full speed ahead! I am especially proud of Owen as he suffers from Anxiety. As nervous as he may have felt, he knew it was for a good cause and he wanted to help. I was as proud as I Mom could be, and still am!This photo catches the moment when all of Owen’s friends came up to support what he had just done. His big smile says it all! Just wanted to share!

We appreciate all that you do for this cause and wish you lots of future success.
We will be sure that more then 5 people shave their heads at Newcastle Public school next year, as I am sure that Owen will have more than one friend to tag along!!!
Take care

Monies raised by Pedal for Hope are going directly to pediatric cancer research.

Teaching kids about other kids who are just like them but who are  living with cancer.

Pedal for Hope helps children with cancer know that they are not alone in their fight.

Pedal For Hope is a three week cycling tour delivering a message about kids living with cancer and supporting Pediatric Cancer Research.

In 2005, the Peterborough Chapter of Cops for Cancer took on a new identity. The Pedal for Hope Cycling Team was born and local children fighting cancer had a new support team behind them! Local police personnel, a retired N.H.L. hockey player and a great crew of support personnel have been dedicating time to this worthy cause. Starting in late April, the Pedal for Hope team cycles throughout Central Ontario visiting approximately 50 local schools delivering a message about kids living with cancer and raises funds for pediatric cancer research. As of now, Pedal for Hope has raised over $4 million dollars for pediatric cancer research.

As long as there are kids with cancer, none of us can truly rest. Change a child’s life today by
