As much as the Pedal For Hope team had hoped to be back on the bikes and visiting the schools this spring the currently COVID restrictions have meant that our tour will be virtual again this year. Our priority is keeping everyone safe while continuing to raise funds to support the Pediatric Family Counselling Service that provides support to families coping with a cancer diagnosis. This tour will also raise funds to support pediatric cancer research by Dr. Nielsen.

This year we are inviting school and community members to join us for our 2021 virtual tour by signing up to shave their heads, cutting of pony tails or dye their hair and raise money to support the children living with cancer in your community.

The virtual tour will take place between March 29 and May 7 with a goal to raise $120,000.

Who We Are and How We Began

In 2005, the Peterborough Chapter of Cops for Cancer took on a new identity. The Pedal For Hope Cycling Team was born and local children fighting cancer had a new support team behind them! Local police personnel, a retired N.H.L. hockey player and a great crew of support personnel have been dedicating time to this worthy cause.

Each spring members of the Peterborough Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Durham Regional Police Service, Metrolinx and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police shed their uniforms, hop on bikes and pedal throughout Central Ontario visiting schools and raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer research.

Starting in late April for 3 weeks, the Pedal For Hope team cycles throughout Central Ontario visiting local schools delivering a message about kids living with cancer.

A presentation in each school takes on a serious side about how important it is to support pediatric cancer research. We show a team video, shave a few heads, cut a few ponytails and then turn on the fun. Students are involved in ice cream eating contests against their favourite police officer, showing the lighter side of police officers in their community.

We are proud of what we give back to our community, but can’t do it without the support of our ‘Pedal For Hope Friends’ and their families, our police services, our schools and our sponsors. Please patronize our sponsors when you can, it’s the best way that we can say Thank You for their support.

We hope to see you along our journey, it’s always nice to hear your friendly honk along our way!

Since 2005 the Pedal for Hope team has been featured in dozens of newspapers and magazines, received numerous awards, and been a guest in the House of Commons where they were invited to meet the Prime Minister of Canada. In 2015 they even held a massive head-shaving event that broke a Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous head shaves!
